In the last 10 weeks, the American Red Cross has responded to 36 large disasters that have destroyed homes and uprooted lives across our country. The Red Cross, including eight volunteers from the Susquehanna Valley Chapter, is on the scene in the hard-hit Midwest providing shelter, hot meals and a helping hand.
Typically, in one year, the Red Cross responds to 80 large disasters! Flooding, tornadoes and wildfires have made this a devastating year and the height of hurricane season is fast approaching.
Americans are hurting, we now anticipate spending more than $30 million to care for those affected by the recent disasters. We are working to control costs, but our Disaster Relief Fund is depleted. This is a time for us to help each other no matter where we live.
