COMPLETE PREPARATION CHECKLIST
The following are simple things that you can do to prepare for an emergency. These tasks will give direction to you and your family if a disaster strikes and help you stay calm and in-charge.
Post emergency telephone numbers by phones. Teach children how and when to call 9-1-1 or your local emergency help number. Show each family member when and how to turn off the utilities (water, gas and electricity) at the main switches. Check if you have adequate insurance coverage. Show your family where a fire extinguisher is stored and get training from your local fire company on how to use it. Install smoke detectors on each level of your home, especially near bedrooms. Determine the best escape routes from your home. Conduct a home hazard hunt. Find safe places in your home for each type of disaster. Stock emergency supplies and assemble a supplies kit. Take a Red Cross first aid and CPR class.
