Through a unique relationship with Nextel and a program called DONATE A PHONE, that old wireless phone in your home or office can be retired, recycled and used to create funds to support the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services program, which provides assistance and comfort to U.S. military members and their families across the country and around the world.
Help the American Red Cross and Nextel answer the call of those who have answered the call for America. Simply bring your old phone, regardless of manufacturer or condition, to NASCAR Cup Series ™ races or any of Nextel's retail stores (see nearby locations below) or go to www.nextelbuyback.com. On average, the recycling of each phone will result in a cash contribution of $1.70 to support American Red Cross services to military members and their families. Supporting military members and their families has never been easier!
As long as U.S. troops are deployed, there will be a need to keep them connected to their families back home. Through a worldwide communication network that includes workers who live and work alongside troops, the American Red Cross delivers urgent news of death, serious illness or birth to the frontlines or the home front.
Each month since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the American Red Cross serves a record number of more than 20,000 service members and their families. An average of 14,500 families were served each month prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom. |
Pictured are Mechanicsburg Middle School teacher Chriss Ubaldi, two MMS students and Alan Berkowitz of Nextel. Students at MMS collected cell phones to be recycled and refurbished by Nextel as part of an environmental project. Proceeds from the recycled and refurbished phones will be donated to the American Red Cross Armed Forces Emergency Services program.
