EffectiveStarting back in July 2006, all Red Cross registered volunteers 18 and over must undergo background checks. Volunteers will register for a background check by accessing the web site www.mybackgroundcheck.com. If you are a volunteer who has never received a Red Cross background check, you must do so before March 31, 2007. - At the request of many loving pet-owners, the American Red Cross of the Susquehanna Valley is initiating a certified Pet First Aid program. At this time, the Red Cross is seeking volunteers who would be willing to teach the courses. All training and materials needed for the course would be provided to the volunteer instructors free of charge. A new, updated Volunteer Handbook is now available for all volunteers. It is a reference guide of policies, procedures, and general information for Red Cross volunteers. The Handbook includes our Mission Statement, Chapter History, the in-take process for volunteers, volunteer policies and other reference materials. We encourage all volunteers to read through the Handbook and use it as a resource.

- A new company-wide volunteer program was recently launched at C&S Wholesale Grocers. With this program, agencies can benefit twice: first by the time and talents of C&S employees who volunteer and again by dollars that are donated by the company in recognition of their employees’ commitment. The donation is $1 for each hour of volunteer service from a C&S employee, provided they volunteer a minimum of 25 hours. If you are an American Red Cross volunteer employed by C&S, please complete and submit the C&S “Dollar for Doers” application.
