Adult Literacy
Become a trained volunteer assisting adults who want to improve their reading and writing skills with the Adult Literacy Council or the Literacy Council of Lancaster. Give the gift of literacy to another person.
APPRISE
Trained volunteers help older persons understand health insurance coverage, determine adequacy of coverage and submit necessary claim forms. Volunteers also assist with the prescription coverage offered through Medicare; also known as Medicare Part D.
Adopt a Classroom
Volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups with Elementary School children. The volunteers tutor the students in reading, math and spelling. Scheduling is flexible and the service opportunity is very rewarding.
Animal-Assisted Therapy
Do you have a dog or other pet you think people would enjoy meeting? Volunteers and their pets are needed for the Animal Assisted Therapy program in both Lebanon and Lancaster Counties. Once your pet is certified as a therapy pet, you are able to visit hospitals, retirement communities and nursing homes. Contact us for more information.
Asera-Care Hospice
Be a companion volunteer, run errands, provide music, sing in group, office worker. Asera-Care is one of four hospice options in Lancaster County. Clowns, musicians, message therapists, beauticians, dog groomers, public speakers. Have a skill to share? Asera-Care needs you and will use your gifts to help them better meet the needs of their clients.
Big Brothers & Big Sisters
There is a child on a waiting list who wants to be your little brother or little sister. Be a big brother or big sister to a young person who wants to build a quality relationship and have some fun with an adult. Mentors are always needed. Big Brothers/Big Sisters will provide the training and the child.
Blood Bank Hospitality
Do you enjoy people? Serve as a hospitality volunteer at blood drives in your community. Greet donors, serve snacks and do what is needed to make the blood drive go smoothly for donors and blood drive medical staff. Volunteers will be given all other information they need to perform duties effectively.
Compeer Lancaster Volunteer
Be a friend and mentor to a Compeer client. Compeer trains volunteers and matches them with people recovering from mental illness in one-to-one relationships. Friendship is a valuable gift you can give to someone recovering from mental illness.
Conflict Mediation
Work as a facilitator in the Lancaster Area Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (LAVORP). Volunteers are trained to support offenders and empower victims by assisting them to address the harm caused by non-serious crimes through face-to-face meetings. Training is provided. Ask for more details.

Serve with a committed group of volunteers who meet people’s needs when they are in crisis. Will train volunteers to take incoming calls on their emergency helpline. Volunteers are always needed to provide this service in our local community. Contact RSVP to hear more.
Disaster Assistance Team (DAT)
Work with a team of individuals and see the difference you can make in someone's life immediately. DAT goes to scenes of fires and provides assistance needed to families affected. Training needed provided by the local Red Cross Chapter. Contact the RSVP office to learn more.
Friendly Visitor
Do you love to meet new people, visit, and talk? Friendly visitors are needed in several different programs. If you would like to brighten someone's day just by visiting with them or staying with them for a few hours while family members run errands, this could be a great opportunity for you.
Hospice of Lancaster County
Hospice volunteers are special. They're sensitive to others. They have the ability to listen. And, most important, they really care.There are many opportunities for service available. Volunteer positions include: Home, inpatient, music support, pet therapy, coping kids and bereavement. Contact RSVP staff for more info.
Humane League of Lancaster
Do you enjoy animals? Abandoned pets need nurturing people who will show them love and care for them. Help the animal shelter as a volunteer with the many tasks that need to be done daily to provide a quality home for these pets while they wait for their new homes. RSVP will be happy to help you become one of the Humane League's dedicated volunteers.
Meals on Wheels (MOW)
Enjoy people? Many people in your local community depend on Meals on Wheels volunteers to drop off meals and check in on them as they make their deliveries. Needs drivers, packers and people who will visit people in their homes, deliver meals and provide a friendly greeting at each home visited. Can you help MOW meet this need in your community?
Museums Volunteers
Tour guides, visitor station aides, docents, educators needed at several locations in Lancaster County. Training provided. Here’s a chance individual’s who enjoy people to provide a needed service our community. Contact our office to find out more about these opportunities.
Office/Data Entry
Comfortable entering information into a database or are you good with computers and think you could learn this skill?. The Lancaster Red Cross Chapter needs your help. Staff will provide the training needed so you will find success in this service assignment. Contact RSVP staff if you are interested and want more information.
Ombudsman Program
Ombudsmen are volunteers who are interested in making a difference for residents of nursing and personal care homes. Ombudsmen are trained to be advocates for the residents. Staff and trained volunteers investigate and resolve concerns related to care provided in nursing homes and personal care homes or by other public agencies.
Preschool Aide
Are you a warm person who likes people? Do you enjoy working with small groups of young children? Be a teacher’s aide at one of several preschool programs assisting them care for young children. Contact us for details.
Red Cross Instructor
Enjoy teaching others important skills? Red Cross CPR and First Aide instructors pass on the knowledge that saves lives in our local community. Be a volunteer who makes a difference in someone’s life in a concrete way. Training needed provided by the local Red Cross Chapter. Contact RSVP staff for more information.
Road to Recovery
In this project of the American Cancer Society, RSVP volunteers drive cancer patients to and from their treatments. Training is provided. Volunteers serve mornings or afternoons on weekdays. Can you help someone and your community by providing this service to someone who needs you? Contact the RSVP staff and we will make sure you get the information you need and get you set up in this program.
Susquehanna Association for the Blind
Volunteers needed to drive clients from their home to the agency (vehicle provided); card club leader – play and teach new card games to six (6) clients who are visually impaired once a month; and friendly readers – visit clients in their homes and help read various materials weekly. Qualifications: enjoy people and want to help them with specific need.
Stream Quality Tester
Want to help keep our Lancaster County streams clean? Become a trained Water Quality Volunteer Coalition (WQVC) tester. You will go out with a trained team to collect samples, do testing and record data at a specific stream. Interest in the environment and learning are the only prerequisites. VITA Tax Assistance
Trained Volunteer Income Tax Assistnace (VITA) volunteers assist the low income, disabled and elderly with the preparation of their tax returns. Volunteers receive free IRS-sponsored training in tax preparation. Three summer training dates are set for July and September. Contact us to get involved for the upcoming tax season.
