EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

The American Red Cross helps teachers and community leaders educate and train young people throughout the Susquehanna Valley to create better and safer places to live, work and play.

The local Red Cross offers programs and materials in the areas of education, leadership and volunteerism. Most programs are free of charge. Check out how the Red Cross can compliment your lessons. Materials and programs are available to schools, scout groups, or any other youth-serving organizations.

    • Scrubby Bear
      Video and posters teach children the importance of proper hand-washing.
      For Grades: Pre-K - 2nd
    • Play Safe, Be Safe --Fire Safety
      Not playing with matches, installing smoke detectors, stop, drop and roll and other fire safety tips are taught by means of a video and games.
      For Grades: Pre-K - 1st
    • Camp Itsamongus
      Helps kids understand the facts about HIV and that it is not spread through casual contact. For Grades: K - 3rd
    • Children At Home Safe Alone (CASA)
      Topics include 9-1-1 calls, strangers and basic home safety. This video-based course is in quiz-show format and includes an interactive workbook.
      For Grades: K - 5th
    • Disaster Dudes
      Kids can take control of an emergency situation. Students discuss appropriate behaviors and learn how to create a family disaster plan through video presentation.
      For Grades: 1st - 5th
      Suggested Class Size: 20-30
    • Longfellow's Whales Tales
      Kids learn basic water safety through a video and discussions.
      For Grades: K - 5th
    • Basic Aid Training (BAT)
      Teaches youth to identify and prevent dangerous situations. They learn about choking and treating other injuries through a video and discussions.

      Professional puppet show conducted by Hole in the Wall Puppet Theatre will come to your school to educate youth about HIV and AIDS.
