INTERNATIONAL
SERVICES
The American
Red Cross is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement,
an organization of more than 160 Red Cross national societies around
the world.
The American
Red Cross of the Susquehanna Valley can offer a number of unique international
services including:
- International
tracing services through a comprehensive global communications network.
- Sending
personal Red Cross messages to Red Cross/Red Crescent societies in other
countries to form a worldwide communications network. Refugees and families
affected by armed conflict or civil unrest rely on messages through
which Red Cross workers transmit life and death news to family members.
- Working
closely with The Holocaust and War Victims Tracing and Information Center
to bring peace to those who still seek information about relatives separated
from their families during World War II.
- Educating
the American public about International Humanitarian Law, the Geneva
Conventions and the Red Cross Fundamental Principles. Free International Humanitarian Law school presentation.
- The Red Cross has made a long-term commitment, titled the Measles Initiative, to vaccinate 200 million African children. For less than a dollar, a child can be easily and safety vaccinated against measles. Several schools have conducted fundraisers to benefit this program. Send an e-mail or call (717) 234-3101 or (717) 299-5561 to request a Measles Initiative fundraising start-up kit.
