Harrisburg PA (June 23, 2010) Red Cross volunteer Nancy Sponeybarger, Dauphin, PA,  is heading to assist with the Red Cross Disaster relief effort for those displaced by the flooding  in Kentucky  Sponeybarger, will be deployed for three weeks and will be working as a volunteer  casework supervisor.
            The Red Cross encourages those affected to register their status on the Safe and Well Web site on www.redcross.org so loved ones can know they are safe.

<![CDATA[Red Cross responds to flooding in Harrisburg]]> Harrisburg, PA (August 13, 2010)— American Red Cross of the Susquehanna Valley volunteers are responding to the flooding that has affected various parts of Harrisburg due to the heavy rains during the last 24 hours.
  • ·         Yesterday afternoon, August 12, Dauphin County EMA requested Red Cross assistance with 40 residents whose homes flooded in the 1200 block of S. 19th Street. The Red Cross sent a Disaster Assessment Team to survey the damage and provided housing for one family, consisting of individuals.
  • ·         At 7:00 p.m., The Red Cross received a call for flooded homes in the 1200 block of Rolleston Street. The Red Cross provided housing for 1 for 2 people.
  • ·         Currently, the Red Cross has 5 volunteers conducting outreach in flooded parts of the city, distributing clean-up kits and flood literature in the following areas of Harrisburg:
o        1200 block of S. 19th Street
o        1200 block of Rolleston Street
o        500 block of S. 16th Street
o        300 block of Crescent Street
o        700 block of Melrose Street

The American Red Cross is pleased to announce the release of a newly revised and improved Swimming and Water Safety program that provides an increased emphasis in the areas of drowning prevention and water safety and emphasizes an inclusive approach to swimming and water safety. The program continues the proud tradition of teaching people to swim and be safer in, on and around water. In addition, the program includes courses for all age groups and varying abilities, as well as a variety of courses and presentations to help teach all age groups how to enjoy the water safely and how to stay safe in the event of an emergency.

<![CDATA[Red Cross assists 10 families displaced by storms in Northern Lancaster County.]]> brief but powerful storm, which swept across the county between 4 and 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon and early evening.
 
The Red Cross is currently assisting 10 families, totaling 28 people. Eoght families are from Clay Township and 2 families are from Denver. The Red Cross is providing food clothing and shelter, depending on the needs of each individual family. The Red Cross will be meeting with the affected families to determine any additional disaster-related needs, offer comfort and help them begin their road to recovery after this disaster.
