THREE MILE ISLAND (TMI)

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Susquehanna Valley citizens should know what to do in the event that an emergency occurs at Three Mile Island (TMI), host of a nuclear power plant.

Instructions are listed in the blue pages of your phone book. It provides information regarding:

  • Areas within the TMI Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ)
  • Where to get instructions if an emergency occurs
  • Where to go if an evacuation is necessary
  • What items to take with you
  • Rumor control numbers to call to get facts
  • Emergency plans for local school districts (important if you have children that attend these schools)
  • How to get transportation, if necessary for an evacuation

If needed, the American Red Cross of the Susquehanna Valley will provide and operate shelters for evacuees according to pre-set emergency plans. These emergency plans are tested by the Federal government every two years.

Please note that the emergency procedures found in the phone book are valid in all emergency situations. They are not restricted to TMI emergencies.
